Changsha City is the provincial capital of Hunan Province. It is the political, economic, cultural, transportation, science and technology, finance and information center of Hunan Province. It is located in the north of the eastern part of Hunan Province.


Changsha has a long history and enjoys a pleasant climate, ranking the first among the “Top Ten Leisure and Livable Eco-Cities in China”. Changsha has a profound civilization with rich cultural heritage. Its written history dates back to 1,600 BC. In 1982, Changsha City was named by the State Council as the first batch of “historical and cultural cities”. Changsha has 55 higher education institutions, 97 independent research institutions, 14 national engineering (technology) research centers, 15 national key (engineering) laboratories and 12 national enterprise technology centers. Changsha is also known in China and abroad for its scientific research achievements, including its hybrid rice breeding technology, Tianhe supercomputer, and 3D sintering printer, the first one produced in China.


The forest coverage rate in Changsha reaches 53%, the green coverage rate in urban built-up areas 42%, and the per capita public green area 18.8 square meters. It has won the title of “Global Green City” in the Global Habitat Environment Forum and has been awarded “Happiest Cities in China” for ten consecutive years. Changsha City has once again become a new first-tier city in 2018, ranking top 10 for three consecutive years. At the same time, Changsha enjoys the titles of "Culture City of East Asia", "City of Media Arts" and "International Gourmet City".
